Our Physiotherapist’s Background

Mr. Kwong-yan, Cheung (Kwong) is an Australian trained physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Sports Science, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, and a Master of Sports Medicine degree. He is also qualified to run the GLA:D program to manage knee and hip osteoarthritis. He obtains the APA Sports Physio Level 2 and ASCA Level 1 Strength and Conditioning. He is the Canberra Raiders’ Juniors’ team’s physiotherapist (SG Ball and HM) and the Belconnen United Football (Men) teams’ head physiotherapist. He was previously involved in other teams, including Gungahlin Jets, Canberra United Academy, Wests Rugby, West Australian Futsal National teams, and Hong Kong Hockey Women's National Team.

Mr. Kwong-yan, Cheung has a proven track record in managing sports injuries, arthritis, lower back pain, and neuromuscular conditions. He has successfully rehabilitated numerous patients with ACL injuries, instilling confidence in his ability to provide effective treatment options. His success stories include rehabilitating patients with ACL full-thickness tear conservatively, enabling them to return to top-level contact sports. He also conducts the isokinetic test in Canberra, a gold standard measurement for players to safely return to sports after injuries.

Mr. Kwong-yan, Cheung's passion for sports extends beyond his professional life. He was a competitive rower, representing the Hong Kong Rowing Youth National Team at the age of 15. Unfortunately, he had to stop due to chronic lower back pain, which gives him a unique understanding of such conditions. He also obtained coaching qualifications in rowing and basketball and coached the basketball and rowing teams at Radford College and Canberra Grammar School during his university years. His personal interests include following the English Premier League Arsenal since his youth, and he continues to engage in various sports activities, including 10km running, swimming, and basketball.
He offers manual therapies, exercise programs, load building, and rehabilitation services. He can access hydrotherapy at the University of Canberra Hospital.
