Located in O’Connor, Wattle Street Medical Practice is an accredited well established Family Practice  .  Our practice is dedicated to providing you and your family with personalised, professional, quality healthcare across a wide range of medical and support services. We have a team of dedicated and friendly staff and doctors who will be pleased to assist you with your healthcare needs. Our purpose built facilities enable our staff and doctors to provide you with quality care in modern and comfortable surroundings.


The Practice has several  doctors and other clinicians. All doctors books are open.
Doctors at the practice have wide ranging interests and skills including child health, adolescent health, women’s health, mental health, prevention and management of infectious and chronic diseases. Several doctors also perform minor surgery. We also have a clinical psychologist on site.


The Practice has registered nurses who run clinics for immunisations, minor procedures and provide patients with preventative health checks and the opportunity to discuss various health issues.

  • Appointments

    We encourage patients to make appointments with the doctor of their choice. While we try to maintain appointment times, some problems take longer to deal with than others. Please be patient and understanding – the doctor will also give you all the time you need. Your help in requesting extra time for complex and thorough examinations such as annual health checks, multiple problems, surgical procedures, mental health plans and travel health would be appreciated.

    If you are experiencing chest pain, heavy bleeding or difficulty breathing we recommend that you go to your nearest hospital immediately. Please advise the receptionist on arrival if you believe you require urgent medical attention.

  • Fees

    Fees as of the 1st of January 2017 are:

    Fee Rebate from Medicare
    Standard Consult (5-19 Mins) – $80 $37.05
    Long Consult (up to 29 Mins) – $140 $71.30

    The cost of other services can be obtained from the receptionists.
    The practice does not operate on credit and patients are requested to pay at the time of the consultation. We accept cash, EFTPOS and credit cards.
    Patients who have difficulty paying should discuss the issue with their doctor.
    Workers Compensation claims and Third Party Insurance claims are the responsibility of the patient. Payment at the time of consultation is required.

  • Nursing Home Visits

    At Wattle Street Medical Practice we provide nursing home visits to Morshead Homes, Goodwin House Ainslie and Kankinya Nursing home

  • Telephoning your doctor

    You may contact your doctor during opening hours. If the doctor is not available a message will be taken.

  • Billing Arrangements

    Fees are to be paid at the time of consultation. We offer our patients a convenient service of on the spot Medicare rebates. If you present your current Medicare card, along with your debit card, we are able to have your Medicare rebate deposited directly into your saving or cheque account as soon as you have settled your account. Health Care card holders, pension card holders, and children under 12 years of age pay a discounted consultation fee. Please note that this discount does not apply to holders of private health fund cards. There is an admin fee for reissuing of lost medical certificate, pathology/radiology forms, or referral. Bulk Billing is available to existing patients of the practice for the following services perform by our Practice Nurse and in cooperation with the doctors:

    •  Annual Comprehensive Diabetic Assessment
    •  75 Years and Older Annual Health Assessment
    •  45-49 Years Old Health Check
    •  3-5 Years Old Healthy Kids Check
  • Your Personal Information

    Your privacy is important to us. It is the policy of this practice to maintain confidentiality and security of your personal and health information at all times, and as such, we prefer you in person to pick up copies of your test results or any related medical information when you requested. This information is only available to authorised staff members.

  • After Hours

    This practice provides 24-hour care for our patients through the Canberra After Hours Locum Medical Service (CALMS). If you need medical attention when this practice is closed, please call CALMS on 1300 422 567 or go directly to the Accident & Emergency Departments of either the Canberra Hospital or Calvary Hospital.

  • Repeat Prescriptions

    To obtain a repeat prescription patients must book an appointment with the doctor. Script requests will not be taken over the phone.

  • Specialist Referrals

    To ensure appropriate management of your condition, our doctors need to assess you before referring you to a specialist and before renewing your referral. Please note that we are not permitted by law to backdate a referral so please ensure your referral is current before seeing the specialist.

  • Medical Certificates

    Medical Certificates are a legal document. It is illegal to back date medical certificates and they will only be issued for genuine medical conditions that require time off from work or study. To obtain a medical certificate you must have a consultation with a doctor. A small fee may be charged for replacement medical certificates.

  • Recall/Reminder System

    The Practice has a recall system for preventative services relevant to your care. Notices are sent out when you become eligible or are due for these services. Further information is available from Reception.

  • Results of Tests

    Patients are advised to phone the Practice for results. Reception will provide feedback according to the doctor’s advice, and will not give out any results unless advised by the doctor to do so. You may be asked to make an appointment to come back to see your doctor for your results.

  • Feedback & Suggestions

    We constantly strive to give you the very best possible care and attention. However, if you are unhappy about any aspect of our service please speak to your doctor. You are also encouraged to put any feedback in writing – we have a “Patient Feedback & Suggestions” form available at reception. Please drop any completed forms in the Feedback and Suggestion Box, located in the waiting room . We will respond as soon as possible, after appropriate investigation.

    Should the need arise, The Health Complaint Commissioner can be contacted to arbitrate on 6205 2222.

    Please bear in mind, that it is difficult for us to improve our service to you if we are unaware of any problems, and as such, we greatly appreciate any feedback.

  • Home Visits

    Home visits can be made in special circumstances if your situation renders you unable to attend the Practice.

  • Cancellation Policy

    It is our practice policy that you provide at least 4 hours notice if you are unable to keep an appointment, unless there are unavoidable circumstances. If due notice is not given a fee of $45 ($25 for concession card holders) may be charged to your account for the appointment. If there is an outstanding account due to missed appointments or late cancellations, you may not be given another appointment until the account is settled.

  • Privacy

    The practice is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of your personal health information stored in your medical record. It is the policy of this practice to ensure the security of this record at all times and this information is only available to authorised members of staff.

  • Email requests for medical advice

    Wattle Street Medical Practice does not accept email requests for medical advice. Patients wanting medical advice must obtain an appointment to see a doctor.

  • Comments and complaints

    At Wattle Street Medical Practice we welcome your comments on how to improve our services. Please talk to your doctor or our receptionists about your concerns or suggestions. Alternately, we have a confidential suggestion box located in our waiting room. In the unfortunate event of less than satisfactory service from administrative or medical staff please ask to speak to the the Practice Manager Nhung Tran or alternatively email all your feedback or complaints to practice.manager@wattlestreetgp.com.au
